Round tapered columns have a history rooted deeply in
the architecture of the Ancient Greeks. Known as the Doric or Tuscan order,
they existed as early as the seventh century BC. In the original Greek
version, Doric columns were placed on flat pavement with no base and were
topped by a smooth capital.
The Paestum temples in southern Italy are an early example of the Doric
order of tapered round columns. The Temple of Hephaestus in Athens, which
was built around 449 BC, is also a classic example of the Doric order.Today

common place is on a porch or patio. They communicate a message
of both strength and elegance to the architecture of the home.

can be manufactured to withstand the elements of the outside or fit
nicely inside the home offering an exquisite appearance that will
impress any visitor. The style is may be fluted or smooth and a variety
